Thanks to our reader, Norman Li, we came across Daihai Fei’s dwelling place – a bamboo “egg” smallHouse. The tiny enclosure measuring 2 meters tall is outfitted insulation, a waterproof membrane beneath a skin of sacks filled with sawdust and grass seed. In the spring, the seeds will begin to germinate and the hut will be covered in grass. And, the hut is placed on wheels, allowing Fei to transport the small residence whenever and wherever he sees fit.
More images and more about the residence after the break.
Inside, the furnishings are simple with a small bed, a table with books, and a small pressurized water tank for washing purposes. The house is designed to serve Fei’s most basic needs in an economical way.
Fei, a recent graduate, used his Beijing-based architectural design company’s design concepts to inspire his small residence. So, the egg manifests his company’s philosophies about architecture and also provides Fei with an inexpensive place to stay. Using under $1000 dollars, Fei and a few helpers constructed the residence and relocated the structure from outside the house of Fei’s parents to outside the design company.
